Subject: Opt into the new Ranger Alert System- Second Reminder
Dear Northwest Faculty and Staff,
To best serve all the members of our College community, Northwest has adopted a new text and e-mail emergency alert system, which began operating this month. You will no longer receive Ranger Alert telephone calls to your office, home or mobile phone. If you opt in to the system, you will receive only text and email messages updating you regarding school closings, safety concerns and inclement weather conditions for your campus. This change allows us for the first time to add all of our STUDENTS to our emergency alert system, so that they will get direct alerts, too!
The most important take away from this e-mail: YOU MUST OPT IN TO THIS NEW SYSTEM IN ORDER TO RECEIVE EMERGENCY ALERTS. If you get a new phone number, you must opt into the new system from your new phone number.
FOR FACULTY AND STAFF ONLY: Text NWCCalerts to 955-77 and follow all of the prompts until you get a final “Thank you!”
Your “NWCCalerts” keyword will automatically put you in a distribution list to receive all alerts regarding school closings, safety concerns and inclement weather conditions for your campus. Updates about dangerous weather conditions will be issued during working hours. As you set up your alerts, we will be asking if you work during the day or evening so that we can stay in touch with employees who have evening duties. If you wish to only receive email messages, please email me directly and I will send you those directions.
The most well-known use of the Ranger Alert system has been to inform employees about school closings. From now on, should that occur, you will receive a Ranger Alert by text and email and the closing will be posted on the Northwest homepage and on all area broadcast news channels.
If you wish to receive news and event information in addition to the above alerts, text RangerInfo to 955-77.
If you supervise staff who do not have a Northwest e-mail, we are relying on you to impart this information to those employees.
Directions for students will be different than the above, and you will be sent a copy so that you are aware of their system. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
