Sponsors and participants are still needed for the third annual local “Shoot for the Heart” event to benefit The Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing. The event will take place on Saturday, April 26 at the Willows Sporting Clays Center in Tunica.
The event is sponsored by the Paper Packers Sporting Clays Club and the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi manages the Shoot for the Heart fund. The deadline to register is Thursday, April 16.
As in the past, the event will benefit Northwest nursing students. According to Ellen Williams, dean of the Northwest Division of Nursing, more teams and sponsors are needed for the event. Teams are usually made up of four shooters. Adults and teenagers who have an adult to accompany them are all encouraged to participate. “There are several spots available for both sponsors and individuals. We hope people will come out and participate in this fun event that directly benefits the nursing program,” Williams said.
The cost for individuals is $125 and $500 for teams. Sponsorships are as follows: Silver, $750 (one shooting team of four) and Gold, $1,500 (two shooting teams of four). Sponsors will get signage on the Willows course and their company logo featured on the back of the event’s commemorative t-shirt. Additionally, Gold sponsors will receive recognition in the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi annual report.
Each participant will receive a welcome pack, 100 rounds of clays, breakfast and lunch, water and soda, one door prize ticket and a commemorative event t-shirt.
“Last year $50,000 was raised for the Northwest nursing program. The money is used for equipment and supplies, and a portion of the money is set aside for nursing scholarships,” Williams said. Northwest nursing students assist participants at the event by serving as hosts and trappers on the shooting clays course, she added.
Registration forms are available at various businesses around the community and at the Northwest Nursing Building on the Senatobia campus. They are also available online at www.northwestms.edu/nursing.
