Northwest recognized nationally for eLearning program

Northwest Mississippi Community College is proud to announce that it has been awarded top ranking status for its eLearning program.

In a list of 60 honorees named by, Northwest has been awarded the third place spot in the Top Online Community Colleges category. Northwest has also claimed the 10th place spot, of 60 honorees, in the Top Online Colleges category.

“Northwest offers high-quality online courses that lead to an in-demand career,” said Dr. Michael Heindl, Northwest president. “Many students take advantage of the flexibility that online classes afford, and our eLearning team and online instructors provide excellent service and instruction.”

Northwest’s eLearning program offers over 300 online courses as well as fully-online associate degrees in 11 academic pathways and four Career-Tech programs. Online courses were developed to increase access to Northwest courses for adults and other students who cannot attend campus-based classes due to work, family responsibilities or distance from campus. Northwest is a part of the Mississippi Virtual Community College System, which gives students more online course options.

The student-focused comprehensive research guide is based on an assessment of 1,604 accredited colleges and universities. Each program is evaluated based on curriculum quality, graduation rate, reputation and post-graduate employment.

The 2020 rankings are calculated through a unique scoring system which includes student engagement, potential return on investment and leading third-party evaluations. analyzed hundreds of schools with comparable programs on a scale of 0 to 100, with Northwest making it to the final list for two degree programs.
