POSITION:  Job/Employment Coach

Primary Location: MARSHALL COUNTY WIN JOB CENTER, Byhalia, Mississippi

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university.  Master’s degree preferred.

Must have excellent communication skills. Proficiency in the usage of a variety of computer software applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software/internet applications is required. Budgeting experience and financial tracking and reporting preferred. Relative experience desired.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION
The Employability Coach is a new, grant funded position, created to provide a broad array of individual and small group career coaching services to WIN Job Center customers, WIOA participants, and credit/noncredit students.  The position is dependent on the success of the project and continued funding of the grant.
RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Enroll focus participants in soft-skills training to learn employability skills and job search techniques.
  2. Enroll focus participants in WIN Job Center services.
  3. Collaborate with Families First of Mississippi as appropriate
  4. Maintain a schedule of appointments and meet with each participant per program requirements.
  5. Regularly, document participant files and enter participant data and case notes into a tracking system.
  6. Track participant services and success through Excel/other electronic spreadsheet.
  7. Work closely with Workforce Development team members, Adult Basic Education staff, WIOA staff, I2S Career Navigator, I2S Job Developer, MIBEST, and Career Technical programs to ensure participants receive maximum services necessary for success.
  8. Ensure that job and labor market information is readily available to all participants.
  9. Maintain individual participant files as required by contract specifications.
  10. District travel is required
  11. Develop, modify, and schedule professionalism modules.
  12. Provide classroom instruction (including career-technical programs and workforce pre-employment classes).
  13. Work with participants on an individual basis to provide guidance in resume development and interviewing techniques.
  14. Provide a broad array of individual and small group career coaching services to participants, including remediation activities.
  15. Assist participants with Mississippi Works registration and other online job search applications.
  16. Coordinate with WIN Center staff, Family Resource Centers/Families First for MS staff, the college’s employer partnership coordinator and other partner agencies to deliver services.
  17. Connect participants with resources to overcome employment barriers.
  18. Work with WIOA staff and employers to place participants in internships.
  19. Follow up with employers of interns and past graduates to identify deficiencies in their professionalism and to improve training services.
  20. Keep records and documentation on each participant served.
  21. Prepare and submit appropriate reports as required by the contract.
  22. Oversee data collection and use data to improve services.
  23. Work with partners:  Family Resource Centers of MS/Families First for MS, the Mississippi Community College Board, WIN Job Centers, MS Corridor Consortium, employers, and others to establish mutually beneficial relationships to achieve maximum coordination of services to the participant/student.
  24. Coordinate with the college’s WIOA staff, employer partnership coordinator and workforce development staff to develop/continue partnerships with business and industry.
  25. Attend and participate in workshops, training events, and other project meetings and calls as required.
  26. Support the College mission implicitly and explicitly in the daily execution of all duties and responsibilities.
  27. Represent the College in a professional manner as evidenced by dress, demeanor and the discharge of daily responsibilities.
  28. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Possess knowledge of culture and values in the local community
  • Have a familiarity with the resources and wraparound services available within the community
  • Show evidence of effective human services skills such as coaching, mentoring, and motivating
  • Express concern for the welfare of the program and program participants
  • Have the ability to accept responsibility for assigned tasks and meet deadlines
  • Be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Excel
  • Have reliable transportation as district/area travel is required
  • Be willing to undertake other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor, including:
  • May be required to work outside regular working hours
  • May be required to work at a different work site or campus as needed
