Counselor, Student Support Services/TRIO Academic Programs – Senatobia Campus – Deadline for Application: June 19, 2017

POSITION:   Counselor, Student Support Services/TRIO Academic Programs

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work; at least three years’ experience as a counselor and prefer at least one year working with low income, first generation, or students with disabilities; prefer experience in a TRIO setting; certification or licensure in counseling; must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of target population; must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and prefer person with a background similar to the target population.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:  The duties and responsibilities include:

  1. provide personal, career, and academic counseling for SSS participants (including referral as necessary) on an individual or small group basis;
  2. administer diagnostic surveys to assess individual student needs;
  3. collect confidential information and supervise the organization of student files;
  4. develop the Student Needs Assessment Profile (SNAP);
  5. assist participants with interpersonal skills and teach behavioral and social skills;
  6. train and supervise peer mentors; lead small groups related to non-cognitive factors
  7. monitor student progress through data collection and analysis;
  8. develop workshops on topics related to participants’ needs and interests;
  9. assist in the evaluation of the SSS project; and
  10. serve as advocate for disadvantaged students.
