| Qualifications: |
A master’s degree which includes twenty-four semester hours of graduate guidance courses; and a minimum of two years of teaching and/or related work experience in areas such as employment counseling, academic counseling; five years or more experience is preferred. Secondary and/or community college experience and National Counselor Certification preferred. |
| Responsibilities: |
Provide individual and group counseling in the Career Center; conduct workshops for students and community on needed career-related topics; maintain relationships with area secondary schools; work with district counselors to encourage students to enter Career-Tech programs; assist with the management of the Career Center by keeping information current; and work as a team member with other professionals in organizing and implementing innovative educational programs, presentations and events.
- Counsel with students individually
- Counsel with students in small groups
- Be prepared to work with groups of students in various workshops
- Maintain a counseling center suitable for working with students
- Maintain regular office hours and have these hours posted in Career Center
- Be flexible enough to handle crisis with students when needed
- Communicate effectively with district high school counselors
- Coordinate guidance activities with other Northwest counselors
- Provide limited placement services
- Assist with orientation, registration, testing and recruiting
- Counsel with prospective students about career-technical programs
- Maintain information on careers, jobs, colleges and universities
- Promote college programs to business and industry
- Participation in professional organizations
- Effectively utilize advisory committee
- Assist and refer to other community services as needed by students or prospective student
- Work as team with other professionals in organization and implementing new and innovative educational programs, such as Tech Prep, Work-Based Learning, etc…
