Northwest DeSoto Center welcomes new faculty
Northwest Mississippi Community College welcomed new faculty members for the DeSoto Center at the annual back-to-school faculty meeting on Aug. 13.
New full-time instructors are Tamer Bahloul, Greg Earnest, Angela Hitchcock, Lucia Nelson, Betty Spence, Dr. Padma Thimmaiah, Paula Geeter and Ramona Wanlass.
Bahloul, an economics instructor, earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Ohio State University and his master’s in economics from the Miami University of Ohio. Earnest will teach mathematics, replacing Ginger Flanagan who resigned. He received his Bachelor and Master of Science in mathematics from The University of Mississippi. Hitchcock will be replacing Bobby Cleveland, who has retired, teaching funeral service technology. She earned her associate degree in funeral service technology from Northwest and her bachelor’s degree in mortuary management and her Master’s of Arts degree in communications, both from Lindenwood University.
Nelson will teach art in one of the new positions at Northwest this year. She earned her bachelor’s degree in arts from The University of Memphis and her Master of Art Education from Memphis College of Art. Spence, who is replacing Shannon Winston, will teach English. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Union University and her Master of Arts in English from The University of Memphis. Thimmaiah, who will teach chemistry, is replacing Harold Simmons, who has retired. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in biochemistry, microbiology and botany; Master’s of Science in biochemistry and doctorate in biochemistry from The University of Mysore. Geeter, who was previously and adjunct instructor will now be teaching practical nursing full time. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Tennessee, Health Sciences, a bachelor’s degree in natural science from Lemoyne College and a master’s in administration from Central Michigan University. Wanlass will teach English in another of the new positions at Northwest. She earned her Bachelor’s of Art in English and philosophy and her Master’s in English from The University of Mississippi.
