Meet the Rangers set for Aug. 27
Northwest Mississippi Community College will start its fall sports season off right with the annual “Meet the Rangers” night on Monday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. The event will take place at Bobby Franklin Field at Ranger Stadium on the Senatobia campus. Admission is free.
“We want to invite the entire community to come out and meet our coaches, players, cheerleaders and band in a fun atmosphere,” said Cameron Blount, director of Athletics and Intramural Sports. Blount said that the football, men’s and women’s soccer teams, cheerleaders, Ranger Marching Band and Rangerettes will be on hand for the evening’s festivities.
Head Coach Ricky Woods, who is beginning his fifth season at Northwest, and his assistant coaches Jack Wright, Jim Jones, Andy Greening, Jordan Lesley, Trenell Edwards and Scott Oakley, will be leading the Ranger football team this season.
Northwest’s soccer teams are coached by Head Coach, Peter Jarjoura, beginning his 11th season, and Assistant Coach, Charlie Baldwin, who is beginning his seventh season with Northwest.
Liesl Davenport is cheer sponsor. Northwest Cheerleader Coaches are Angie Darbonne and Trey Griffin.
The Northwest Ranger Marching Band is under the direction of John Ungurait, director of Bands and Ken Ortlepp and Jeff Triplett, assistant directors. This year’s halftime show will feature the music of Earth, Wind and Fire. The Ranger Color Guard coach is Susan Van Velsor. Aimee Anderson, director of Campus Life and Housing is the sponsor of the Rangerettes. The Rangerettes coach is Joy Ross.
The Northwest Ranger football team takes on Southwest Mississippi Community College in their season-opener at 7 p.m. on Aug. 30 in Summit. The first home game is Thursday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. when the Rangers play Coahoma Community College. Northwest’s men’s and women’s soccer teams start off their season on Aug. 25 at Delta State with kickoff set for 1 and 3 p.m. in Cleveland. Northwest will host an exhibition match against Jones County on Saturday, Aug. 18 with kickoff at 2 and 4 p.m. in Senatobia.
