Northwest Mississippi Community College to offer CollegeFish.org service for students

Northwest Mississippi Community College has signed an agreement to offer their students CollegeFish.org, a highly interactive website aimed at facilitating credential completion and transfer.

"We are so pleased to partner withCollegeFish.org,” said Northwest President, Dr. Gary Lee Spears. “This online transfer success tool will help our students headed to a four-year institution after Northwest find a college that is the best fit for them and help them find scholarships to finance their future."

Collegefish.org, developed by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is a highly interactive website offering an extensive database with profiles on more than 2,000 colleges and over $37 million in transfer scholarships. It is designed to enhance transfer advising, connecting students to resources that allow them to plan for completion of their two-year degree and successful transfer to a senior college or university. The site also provides the sequence of tasks to be completed for transfer, a personal automatic calendar noting deadlines, and allows students to narrow their top transfer choices and communicate directly with admissions representatives at those institutions.

Northwest students, faculty and staff will soon be offered training conferences facilitated by PTK CollegeFish.org training members to help the college plan for the use of CollegeFish.org campus-wide and provide follow-up technical support. Northwest students will be notified via e-mail this fall when their accounts are active, so they can sign in and begin using the service.

“CollegeFish.org was designed to help community college students complete a credential and plan for successful transfer to senior colleges,” PTK Executive Director and CEO, Dr. Rod Risley said. “At the same time, it aids community colleges in reaching their goals of increasing student persistence, graduation and transfer rates to senior colleges; and assists senior colleges to effectively identify, advise and recruit community college transfer students.”
